The year 2024 had been a rollercoaster ride for us Hot Wheels collector all over the world. Some complained about the lack of good collection, some on the recent price updates (including me) and few others put the whole blame game on money minded Gen-Z collectors entered our society. For us located in India, the price is one of the big bummer as the price went up by almost 60% in since 2021! Also we dint get cases till J for 2024 and then again the demand was all time high so most of us organic hunter dint get lot of cars in pegs. What I really missed this year in our local market is Matchbox’s line-up, which really was incredible.
Leaving the cons aside, we did get a decent collection of Mainlines so I decided to do this year end recap with my Top-10! Lets start with the honourable mentions, shall well? I have recently started collecting a fairly new series of all Tooned style cars, which started with Fast and Furious Supra.. This year it grew up a little and Nissan Skyline 2000GT R LBWK in baby blue came in as my most favourite non street-legal car of the year 2024.
This year got us some crazy cool cars… Not necessarily brand new but definitely cool! The first is Volkswogen Beetle from the movie “Bumblebee” and second my favourite Grumobile from the movie “Despicable Me” both of which are beautiful and brings joy. And there are few more (Bugatti Chiron in red, Dodge Viper in yellow, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento in white, Mitsubishi Pager Evolution etc.) that missed this listing because of fierce competition to reach this Top 10.
Lets star the real show… At tenth spot we have Tesla Cybertruck 246/250 (HW RollingMetal 4/5), this isn’t a very exciting car from the looks department but I been in the hunt for this for a while and I managed to snack one from pegs before the other so I kind of felt accomplished, which also got this one a place in my Top 10. This for sure is a super hyped, under exciting rolling metal indeed.
Next up at number nine is 2016 Ford GT Race 229/250 (Then and Now 7/10) in bright green with a massive black spoiler with no.17 on its doors. This again is a car that got this spot for the nostalgia factor and what can I say I like green. Though not a new casting, this gets a body strip, headlamp detailing and black wheels with gold ring. What I missed in this is rear tail lights, which I may add to my loose piece soon.
Standing at eighth place, McLaren F1 243/250 (HW: The 90S 9/10) in red. I been wanting to get my hands on a decent McLaren F1 and till this year it was either the 5-pack or the 2021 McLaren F1 GTR! But this year when Mattel announced this red version, I started jumping! Getting my hands on this is not easy, but I managed to pick one off the pegs and I felt like a king! Yet again this is not a new cast but I gave it a place in this list due to my love for this car since, who knows how long!
Standing at seventh, my favourite muscle car of all time… Mustang! Ford Mustang Dark Horse 250/250 (Then and Now 10/10) is a beauty in modern disguise and in blue this is a looker. I will take anything that says Mustang and this is quite a piece and Mattel did an awesome job… The pain job, the headlamp details, the tail lamp cluster and the stance all came in together in perfect symphony. This American muscle car would have been higher up in the list if the competition is not this good.
Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar (6) 123/250 (HW Turbo 3/5) misses the top five by just one step. I love hyper-cars and this is one pretty boy with all the checkboxes checked. This blue shade one that came in is a beauty and shines like a star under right kind of light. The gold wheels add a bit interest to the cast, the gold ring around the windscreen is the cherry on the cake.
Now we enter the top five of this list… At number five is one other hyper car, Pagani Utopia 205/250 (HW Exotics 5/10) in shade of chreme. Pagani Utopia is one cool car and I wanted one in my 1:18 scale collection since it was announced but to start the party I picked this Hotwheels version. This is a beauty with clean paint job, head lamp and that multispoke wheels got it a place in my list.
Safely sitting at fourth spot is 2020 Koenigsegg Jesko 184/250 (HW Exotics 2/10), actually they released two color in 2024 and I can’t decide which takes this spot so I got them both for the same spot. Both the orange and the purple version gets identical details like the headlamps, black wheels and carbon roof. The orange kind of is in your face kind of deal and the purple is kind of subtle sleeper type but I like them both equally.
In third place is cool Ford in blue, 22 Ford Maverick Custom 196/250 (HW Hot Trucks 10/10). This is more a love at first sight, though this is not a real life cars that collect, but I cannot give this custom Ford any place lower than this. It got this prestigious space with the features that it got like the big wheels for the rear, headlamp details along with grills and fender etc. Even the graphics on the sides are nice as well adding points to reach this place in leader board.
The runner up for Top 10 Hot Wheels Mainlines of 2024 is Gordon Murray Automotive T.50S 235/250 (HW Exotics 7/10) in bright orange. I love first edition cars and a sucker for hypercars! This T.50S by Gordon Murray Automotive is a looker and Mattel did an exceptional job capturing the fine details of this legend. This gets beautiful dual shade paint finish, body strips and headlamp, which is a separate piece btw.
At the top spot for this year is this Porsche 911 Rallye 172/25 (HW Turbo 5/5), which is a very beautiful car viewed from any angle. I in general love plain body cars and this Porsche is covered with decals to the brim but I still love it to the core. This is a perfect example of beast in class design without killing it original DNA, which Lamborghini on the other hand did with its Huracan Sterrato! Apart from decals this Porsche gets beautiful headlamp decals, roof rack with some items as in real car, rear view mirror body strip and five spoked white wheels all singing a perfect symphony to get this Porsche 911 Rallye top spot in my top 10 for this year 2024.
The year 2024 was a decent but so stressful at the same time… So I have decided to take a pause! I said a pause not a stop so I will still continue to collect but far lesser hunting! As 2025 hotties are already here I picked one that I will call it as the best for 2024 and it is none other than “Morgan Super 3” (2024 Hot Wheels 15/250 – Factory Fresh 1/5) This comes in a really cool color and I wanted to put a rider in that’s it! BTW I was hoping 2025 would be better… HAPPY NEW YEAR in advance to you all, have a safe one… Ciao.
