The BMW S1000RR is a commercial production version of the sport bike initially made by BMW Motorrad to compete in the 2009 Superbike World Championship. It was introduced in Munich in April 2008. It is powered by a 999cc inline-4 engine redlined at 14,200 rpm producing over 179hp propelling it to a top speed of 305 kmph. As the bike weighs under 210kg the acceleration is bind blowing, 100kmph comes at 3.1sec and 300kmph at 19.1sec. It has an anti-lock braking system with an optional electronic traction control. It hold Cycle World Best Superbike of 2010, Motorcyclist’s Motorcycle of the Year 2010 and many more.
This 1:12 diecast scale model is made by Maisto costing Rs.475 is a very nicely crafted model for its price point. The traditional package of Maisto gives you flexibility to store and access it without much workout. This model is available in green but I sort of like it in this tri-color theme.
The bodywork and the scaling are good. I specially like the painting and graphics on it but the scaling of the BMW logo on the side are a little large! The embossing on the engine and brake pads are detailed. Drive chain is also an other part which worth mentioning.
The bodywork come with some carbon fiber bits, which are done quite brilliantly thought its plastic! The exhaust are not so good as the tip is sealed and its look a little too tacky.. I guess it because of the cost cutting these diecast manufacturers are enforcing.
The greatest let down on this models and most other Maisto’s recently released models are its optics!! It gets worst when as most of this newest bike comes with clear lens optics which makes these models look little too toyish!! But thats ok! The worst optics of all should be the Headlamps which makes it look like a cartoon character with big round eyes!
Finally the instrument cluster.. It have some very nice details like the tachometer nearing the redline and the speed readout is decent too. Overall this is one nice model for any BMW enthusiast to have in his/her bookshelf! As always I am sharing some of the outdoor pics that I took on my Vacation in Ooty.
