Hummer H1 Wagon – Maisto

The Hummer H1 is a civilian off-road vehicle based on the M998 Humvee, which was created by AM General. The vehicle was initially known only as the “Hummer”; however, in 1999 GM began marketing the Hummer H2, which was built on the Chevrolet Tahoe chassis, which gave birth to H1 designation. The Hummer H1 owed its birth to the popularity of photos from Operation Desert Storm and the enthusiastic campaign from actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was released in many body type like the two door pickup, four door twin-cab pickup, soft-top and this four door wagon etc.

Before starting the review, I wanted to set the expectation right…. This is a 1:18 scale model made by Maisto which costs around Rs.1650(around $30). The Hummer brand has captured many a model makers like the great Exoto, Hotwheels, Highway 61, Maisto and some other Chinese diecast model makers, all these model makes hold licences for one or two hummer models but Maisto hold like more that three (i.e. H1, H2 and Humvee) and they made many version on each so if you want to built a huge Hummer collection then you cannot ignore Maisto.

This Hummer H1 model is comes in black and red, I picked this black because this looks closer to the alpha version (except the bullbars etc.) released by GM, which is very rare and very expensive. Body styling is very nice and I can make out that the Humvee’s mould is used here as well… following the original culture that AM General followed. Paint quality is top class and glossy finish enhances it aesthetic appeal. From now you can see that this Hummer H1 went through some tough sand outing but still looks very cool even after a wash.

This guy come four opening doors but the tailgate is sealed! Unlike my other Exoto Hummer H1 the doors don’t swing open all the way but sufficient enough give a nice view of its interiors and instruments. Also like all other Maisto the doors don’t have rolled up glass.

The interiors are all made of plastic and are very basic! The instrument console is cool but the sticker could have been better. The pedals are little over sized in comparison to the steering wheel! The upholstery is also interesting though plastic but very nice to look and feel with some texture add to it.

The engine details are awesome! All the text in the hoses “No Step” etc. are very clear and smudge free. The cabling and piping are a little oversized as all other budget models. Coloured materials like the red hose, the white fluid container and the aluminium engines pieces all stand out in that complicated engine bay.

The under details is also very nice and I almost gave a rating score of 5 for it but it could score only 3 because of the beige interior not covered from below!!!

To conclude this is a very nice model to have in your collection if you don’t have a big wallet for a Exoto! It scores high on almost all fields so the overall scores stands at 4 stars overall. You can still find faults but if you consider the price bracket this is a STEAL. As always I had loads of fun outdoor, photographing and editing them with photoshop enjoy them…
